Pros And Cons Of Voting - 837 Words
Voting is a privilege to do in this country. Until 1920 women could not vote, African Americans could not vote until 1965. There are still people to this day that have never voted. Jury duty is mandatory, why not voting? Voting should be mandatory because as citizens, is a right and a job to be able to decide the future of this country. In the United States, there are amendments regarding voting. The 12th Amendment, ratified in 1804, specified how the president and vice president are elected(Grover). In the country there are people that are not actively voting in every election for many reasons, sometimes the people were raised by parents who never voted and they think that not voting is a normal, as they grow up and have their own families they keep that tradition of not voting. If voting was mandatory it would guarantee that they would vote out of the fear of being fined. Money has always played a significant role in politics. Candidates when they run they try to get as much money possible to pay for their campaign. A candidate needs to make a state tour to talk to the people they are trying to get a vote from. The candidates also spend money on television advertisements and now internet advertisements for the younger generation. Most often the candidates get backed up by very influential people such as other people in politics, famous people such as actors, writers, musicians and much more. Sometimes they get money from wealthy people.
